Samsung joins the race for dominance in the field of AI. The Korean giant presented its first model of generative artificial intelligence named Gauss at the beginning of November 2023.

During the AI Forum conference at its research and development center in Seoul, Samsung presented its first generative artificial intelligence model – Samsung Gauss. The name of the tool refers to the German mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss and reflects the company's ultimate vision for the development of large language models. Its main assumption is "drawing from all phenomena and knowledge in the world in order to use the power of artificial intelligence to improve consumers' lives", we read in Samsung's press release.
“We will continue to support research related to generative artificial intelligence and collaborate with industry leaders and academic environments to develop together” – said Kim Dae-hyun, Executive Vice President of Samsung Research Global AI Center.
The Gauss model was developed by the Samsung Research research department and is currently used in the company to check employee productivity. In the future, it will be used for writing emails, editing documents, and generating translations. Samsung plans to gradually incorporate it into various of its products, and technology industry experts predict that Gauss will debut in the first half of 2024, potentially in flagship smartphones from the Galaxy S24 series.
Gauss consists of three basic elements: Samsung Gauss Language, Samsung Gauss Code and Samsung Gauss Image. The first of these is a large language model that understands human language and answers questions. The tool is available in several versions, so it can be used both in the cloud and directly on devices. It allows developers to write application code, which is possible thanks to an interactive interface that supports functions such as code description and generating test application samples.
The module performing these tasks, Samsung Gauss Code, collaborates with its assistant named code.i and focuses its attention on proper coding. Meanwhile, the Samsung Gauss Image module can easily generate and edit images, allowing for style changes, as well as converting low-resolution images to high-resolution.
