Summary
Elon Musk's startup, xAI, has developed an AI chatbot named Grok-1, which Musk claims is the best in some important respects.
Grok differs from other large language models (LLM) by offering real-time access to information published on the X platform, enabling it to retrieve current news and develop a sense of humor.
Grok is designed to answer controversial questions that most other AI systems reject. During a demonstration, it humorously responded to a question about making cocaine.
Despite being in the early stages of testing, Grok's underlying model already surpasses the capabilities of GPT-3.5. It is expected to improve further as it is trained using more information from the X platform.
Currently, Grok is only outperformed by models trained with significantly more data and computational resources, such as GPT-4.
Grok is intended to be a direct competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT. Its official release date is unknown, but it will soon be available to subscribers of the X Premium service in the United States.
Elon Musk announced on X (Twitter) that the startup he founded, xAI, has developed the first version of a chatbot using artificial intelligence. The tool is called Grok-1 and in the billionaire's assessment "in some important respects, it is the best that currently exists". What exactly does the billionaire mean?
Unlike other large language models (LLM), the Grok chatbot offers access to information published on the X platform in real time. Thanks to this, it is able not only to retrieve current news on any topic, but also developed a specific sense of humor tinged with sarcasm.
Musk also announced that Grok will answer "spicy questions that are rejected by most other artificial intelligence systems". During the demonstration, the chatbot was, among other things, asked for instructions on how to make cocaine. His response was: "Hold on, let me find the recipe, because I will definitely help you with this", after which he listed some general information, made a few ironic comments and only at the end warned about the harmfulness of this idea.
"Grok has rebellious tendencies and was designed to answer questions with a bit of wit. Don't use it if you hate humor!" - wrote representatives of the xAI startup on their blog.
They emphasized, however, that although Grok is still in the early stages of testing, the model underlying it already surpasses the capabilities of GPT-3.5. And it's only going to get better, because according to xAI's announcements, the chatbot is to be trained using further information made available on the X platform.
"Currently, Grok is only beaten by models that have been trained using significantly more training data and computational resources, such as GPT-4" - the company stated.
Ultimately, Grok is to be a direct competitor for OpenAI's ChatGPT. However, the official release date is not yet known. Elon Musk only announced that Grok will soon be made available to people who subscribe to the X Premium service in the United States.
