IMM: Innovation in media classification

The IMM team, consisting of scientists, experienced analysts and programmers, is developing a system that will automatically classify publications according to topics and priorities relevant from the perspective of individual clients.

– IMM is already using methods of grouping materials from all media at the stage of presenting results to clients. Because we operate on a very large scale, we want to develop and automate this process. Importantly, we want the solution to be tailored to the individual needs of each user – comments Paweł Sanowski, President of the Board of the Media Monitoring Institute.

New tool in marketing and PR

The IMM project focuses on targeting, i.e. adapting content to the client's preferences. The system being developed will analyze user choices and build individual profiles based on this, adjusting the information presented. The system will automatically identify the subject matter of the monitored materials, grouping them according to the interests of clients.

The implementation of classifying materials according to the current, often rapidly changing subject matter is an interdisciplinary and multi-stage challenge – adds Agata Andruszkiewicz, a member of the IMM board.

It consists, among other things, of lexical, syntactic and semantic analysis. Our system will focus on recognizing topics in monitored materials, and then the obtained data will be used in the process of classifying and grouping data. To achieve this, we will use social network analysis, feature engineering, machine learning and natural language analysis methods.

The project is expected to bring benefits in the areas of PR, marketing and business, helping in filtering and analyzing key information. IMM, using its experience in the application of AI models, strives for further technological progress and innovative solutions in the media monitoring industry.

The project "Development of a tool for thematic grouping of media publications based on machine learning and determining their relevance to the client" is financed under the European Funds Program for the Modern Economy. Work began in January 2024 and is expected to last until the end of 2025.
