The ceremonial inauguration of the Warsaw University of Technology Investment Factory (WUT IF) took place on January 31 in the main building of the Warsaw University of Technology. This is the first venture capital fund established by a Polish public university. It is co-created by representatives of scientific communities associated with WUT - prof. Robert Sitnik and Paweł Zych, as well as experienced investment advisors, entrepreneurs and business angels - Karol Matczak and Jakub Wojciechowski.
The purpose of the fund is to invest in deep-tech sector companies created by teams from the Warsaw University of Technology and other Polish higher education institutions, as well as to develop a network of contacts connecting investors with scientific communities. Thanks to cooperation with the University, WUT IF will have access to academic resources: experts, research teams and unique equipment. The fund is also to provide a reliable assessment of technology potential and be the first in Poland to actively promote ESG aspects (Environmental, Social, and Governance).
– Thanks to WUT IF, research teams will be able to commercialize their technologies and develop new products in one environment associated with the Warsaw University of Technology in an atmosphere of trust and goodwill – says prof. Robert Sitnik.
The founders emphasize at the same time that the fund has a market character, which means that it will focus on achieving an attractive rate of return for investors. It will support leaders from the early stage of their research activity.
– The WUT IF team has diverse and complementary competencies, from experience in establishing and developing deep-tech companies, through experience in the investment market, to expertise in incubation and creating startups at the Warsaw University of Technology – adds prof. Robert Sitnik.
The WUT IF fund was established with full support and commitment from the authorities of the Warsaw University of Technology. During the inaugural ceremony, the rector of the university prof. Krzysztof Zaremba emphasized, among other things, how important it is for WUT to have tools supporting the implementation of students' achievements and its academic staff into life.
