And that's good, especially since according to a new report by a group of scientists from the Leon Koźmiński Academy, young people are less and less willing to engage in programming and consider this activity to be "tedious".

Remote work can also often turn out to be tedious - tedious, overwhelming and isolating. What do Polish women and men think about it and how do they assess the changes that have taken place in Polish law in this area? And above all, how to work remotely and hybridly to maintain mental balance and balance in life? You will read more about this in the new weekly summary of the Digitized editorial team.

ABC of working from home - practical guide

According to the studies quoted above, as many as 31% of Polish employees believe that no training on tools facilitating online duties was conducted at their workplaces. That's one of the reasons why we took up this topic in our guide "ABC of working from home".

Remote work became popular during the pandemic and then meant working from home. However, other possibilities have appeared - we also work in cafes or libraries. However, the healthiest appears to be the hybrid model, in which we spend two or three days a week in the office. Why? Lack of contact with colleagues leads to a number of negative consequences. A major threat is the feeling of isolation, fear about one's position in the company or fear of losing the opportunity to advance.

- The work model that was in force before the pandemic is completely exhausted. Five days in the office is a thing of the past for many, though of course not all, employees. Remote work will stay with us for good - believes economist Nick Bunker.

So how to work remotely and hybridly?

Digital detox. Why you need a break from social media - and how to do it?

An important element of maintaining balance in remote or hybrid work is also the time spent in front of the screen, especially - in front of the smartphone screen on social media. After all, their impact on mental health and the well-being of individuals is well known and widely documented.

Even the research conducted back in 2016 indicates that social media can contribute to the development of depression, anxiety states, toxic self-image and false perception of reality, and also a sense of isolation and alienation as well as an increase in aggression and a decrease in empathy.

There are also several key signals that may indicate that it's time for a break from the Internet and social media. Harvard University on its blog suggests asking yourself a series of diagnostic questions - and more importantly, answering them honestly. The most important of them is the question: Do you feel positively inspired and informed after interactions on social media? Or maybe exhausted, sad, frustrated, overwhelmed, depressed, anxious and angry?

Pretty capable and handsome competent, or cognitive errors and stereotypes in recruitment

Recruitment should be objective. Each of us, however, can succumb to cognitive errors that distort reality. We tend to attribute other positive traits to physically attractive people - intelligence, sense of humor or high competencies. How to avoid a mistake?

In the 70s, not a single woman played in the New York Philharmonic. Ten years later, they already made up 45% of the team. How did this happen? This huge change was not due to a sudden increase in musical competencies among women, but... a screen. It separated the candidates from stereotypes and prejudices of the auditioners. Can "blind" recruitments bring similar effects today?

The phrase "How to write a CV" has over 3 million records in Google's search engine. In specialized articles, you can find information about templates, sections and appropriate clauses. More and more often, the question, "Should you add a photo to your CV?" is also asked. It used to be a common practice, today it is increasingly said that the photo is an element that should be omitted in the CV. Not the only one, by the way.

Justyna Bakalarska-Stankiewicz writes about the most important cognitive errors in recruitment.

Pacifist war games and heroes with depression - social engagement in the world of games

Did you know that there are video games that are not only ambitious works, bordering on art, but also a tool in the hands of educators, ludologists or cultural studies scholars? They tackle difficult social issues, such as harmful ideologies, inequalities, addictions, environmental problems or mental health. They educate while entertaining. These are socially engaged games, which rarely break through to the awareness of a wide audience. Which does not mean that no one has heard of them.

The world of researchers carefully selects titles that are nominated annually for awards during the Games for Change Awards, a New York festival dedicated to them, as well as many other events. Discussions about them, getting to know the creators' environment and asking important questions gives an idea of the application of productions of this trend in therapy and education, as well as their impact on society. After all, they are supposed to not only draw attention to specific problems, but also to indicate, sometimes not obvious, ways of solving them.

We present a subjective list of titles that should not be overlooked when trying to get interested in the phenomenon. They can illuminate the problems of the modern world, enrich historical knowledge and develop empathy. From here it's a small step to using them in campaigns aimed at harmful stereotypes or hate speech.

More about socially engaged games in the text by Mateusz Czerwiński.
