A Polish AI startup called ElevenLabs has secured another round of funding, including from the Sequoia fund, which has pushed its valuation beyond the magical barrier of a billion dollars, and the company itself has joined the narrow circle of so-called unicorns. The above information also coincided with Elon Musk's visit to Poland. The billionaire visited, among other places, the site of the former Nazi extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau and took part in a conference of the European Association of Jews in Krakow. The main point of the event was Musk's discussion with American right-wing columnist Ben Shapiro about anti-Semitism on the Internet.

Generative AI. Will copyright infringement lawsuits bury its future?

Some of the most important are the limits of copyright and the extent to which companies like OpenAI can use human creativity to train their tools. KPMG Report: Generative AI is the main investment priority of Polish companies

Generative artificial intelligence currently occupies a leading position in the investment strategies of company presidents in Poland and around the world. According to a KPMG study, respectively 68% and 69% of them consider AI to be a key area of development, despite ongoing economic uncertainty. According to Polish leaders, the biggest benefits are personalization of services and creation of new products, and on the international arena - primarily financial aspects, such as profitability growth. In addition, 88% of respondents from Poland believe that the lack of appropriate regulations governing genAI is a barrier to the success of their organization.

Another Polish AI startup has become a unicorn

ElevenLabs, a Polish start-up using artificial intelligence software to replicate voices in nearly thirty languages, has secured a new round of funding, which valued the company, operating for just two years, at around one billion dollars - reports Rzeczpospolita via Bloomberg. This is at least the third Polish company in the exclusive group of so-called unicorns.

DPD's AI chatbot went crazy. It insulted a customer and wrote a poem about its uselessness

The incident was revealed by a DPD customerAshley Beauchamp, a pianist and conductor from London, who published screenshots of his exchange with the company's chatbot on the X platform. According to Beauchamp's account, the whole situation started from his own frustration. The man expressed dissatisfaction during the conversation with the bot, writing: "this is completely useless!" and demanded contact with a real employee. When the chatbot informed that it was not able to fulfill this request, Beauchamp began to experiment, asking the AI to tell a joke among other things.

Media review powered by AI. Innovative tool from IMM

The Institute of Media Monitoring is working on an advanced system for categorizing media content, which will be tailored to the individual needs of clients. This groundbreaking project, the first in Poland, received EU funding of 4 million zlotys. The IMM project focuses on targeting, i.e. adapting content to the client's preferences. The developed system will analyze user choices and build individual profiles based on this, adjusting the presented information. The system will automatically identify the topics of monitored materials, grouping them according to the interests of clients.

Companies of Polish businesswomen with the highest revenue totaling 127 billion PLN

According to new data from Dun & Bradstreet Poland, companies run by women showed a 33 percent increase in revenue in their latest financial statements for 2022. Their net profit growth was at the level of 78 percent. Companies run by women constitute 27 percent of all companies registered in our country at the beginning of 2024. Women dominate in the sectors of clothing production, social assistance, and healthcare.

Porsche and partners are building a new venture capital fund

German branches of Porsche, Deutsche Telekom and the Luxembourg fund DTCP are reporting to the Polish UOKiK their intention to concentrate entities in order to create a VC fund focusing mainly on investments in companies operating in the field of software in the areas of mobility and connectivity.

The KNF will take over supervision of the cryptocurrency market in Poland. What will change?

The establishment of the Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) as the main supervisor of the cryptocurrency market in Poland is a response to the regulation of the European Parliament and the EU Council from May 2023. It is not only about strengthening the legal framework for crypto assets, but also increasing investor protection. Among the new powers of the KNF will be the ability to impose financial sanctions and criminal penalties on entities and individuals operating in the cryptocurrency sector.

The European Union Parliament approved on Wednesday, January 17, a directive that will improve product labeling and ban marketing messages that create the appearance of a product's eco-friendliness. This is to protect consumers from choosing brands that base their marketing on greenwashing. According to the new regulations, it will be forbidden to place information on packaging such as "environmentally friendly", "natural", "biodegradable", "climate neutral" or "ecological", unless the manufacturer has appropriate evidence for such a thesis.
