Business in Poland. What are small and medium-sized entrepreneurs afraid of in 2024?
Only 24% of SME sector companies have planned an annual budget, every fourth company does not plan it at all, and the vast majority (96%) express concern about conducting business in 2024 - this is the result of a study conducted by Kaczmarski Group. The main concerns are about the rising costs of doing business.
Startup founder's salary. How much should a founder pay himself?
In the Creandum report, an attempt was made to understand whether there is a relationship between the amount of startup funding and the level of their founders' salaries. For this purpose, over 650 entrepreneurs from 47 European countries were surveyed during last year's SLUSH conference. Their responses indicate that in companies that have received funding up to a million euros, the average annual salary of a founder is about 50,000 euros. Meanwhile, in the case of companies that have raised from 11 toover 50 million euros, this amount increases to about 155,000 euros per year and is fairly constant within these brackets.
Takeovers of Techland and STS the largest transactions. Optimistic forecasts for 2024
In Poland, there were 366 mergers and acquisitions in 2023, which means an increase of 25 transactions compared to 2022 - reported in a joint report by Navigator Capital and Fordata. The largest acquisition during this period was the takeover of Techland by the Chinese company Tencent. The value of this transaction is estimated at about PLN 6.3 billion. The second largest transaction was the takeover of the bookmaker STS Holding by Entain CEE estimated at PLN 3.9 billion. The report stated that in terms of industry, the sectors of Media/IT/Telecom (22%), FMCG (12%) and industry (11%) dominated among the acquired companies.

Intel has created its own AI company. What do we know about Articul8?
Intel is seriously entering the game for dominance in the market of generative artificial intelligence. In early January 2024, the American manufacturer of processors and integrated circuits announced the creation of a new company named Articul8 AI. The company was spun off from Intel's structure and is to operate based on its proprietary technologies, offering fully secure and personalized generative AI solutions for businesses. Arun Subramaniyan, former vice president and general manager of Intel Data Center Solutions, will sit in the chair of the president of the newly formed entity.
IMF Report: AI will affect 40% of jobs and may increase social inequalities
Artificial intelligence will affect almost 40% of jobs worldwide. In more developed economies, this percentage can even reach 60% - warns in its latest analysis the International Monetary Fund. In most scenarios, AI is also likely to worsen the overall level of social inequality. Therefore, carefully balanced policies are needed to fully exploit its potential, so that humanity can be sure that this technology will work to its advantage. "The era of AI has arrived and we can still ensure prosperity for all with its help" - summarizes Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the IMF.
AI in the labor market: fears and concerns of employees [EY Report]
The study "AI Anxiety in Business" conducted by EY indicates that many employees are concerned about the impact of artificial intelligence on their professional career. As many as 75% of respondents are worried that AI may cause some professions to disappear, and 65% of people fear losing their jobs. There is also an awareness that the impact of technology on personal finances and career development can be significant, with 72% of respondents expecting lower earnings and 67% fearing a loss of promotion opportunities due to a lack of AI-related skills.
Steam gives green light to games created by AI
Valve is opening up to games generated by AI. In a statement published on January 10, the company announced that "after spending the last few months learning more about this space and talking to game developers, we are making changes in the way we treat games that use AI technology. AI in automotive. Volkswagen introduces ChatGPT into its cars
Artificial intelligence is entering the automotive industry. During the CES 2024 in Las Vegas Volkswagen announced extensive plans for integrating ChatGPT with its proprietary voice assistant IDA in new models of its cars. This way, users will be able to control entertainment, navigation and air conditioning functions, but also obtain more detailed information. The first cars of the German brand equipped with ChatGPT will be the electric ID 7, ID 4, ID 5 and ID 3, as well as popular models with a combustion engine - Tiguan, Passat and Golf.

China has cracked Apple's codes. User data is at risk
Wangshendongjian Technology, a technology company from Beijing, broke the encryption of Apple AirDrop's wireless file sharing to identify senders, according to a statement issued by Chinese judicial authorities. Thus, the company helped track down people who were sending "inappropriate information" to passers-by in the subway. The statement said that the company "overcame technical difficulties associated with anonymous identifiability via AirDrop", which "prevented further spread of inappropriate remarks and the potential negative impact they could have caused".

Poland will not be satisfied with Intel processor assembly factories, which are to be built near Wrocław. Representatives of our country are looking for other entities willing to build factories producing silicon chips between the Bug and Oder rivers. This is at least the information from Frank Huang, the head of PSMC, the third largest Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer. Huang told Taiwan's Economic Daily News that 7-8 countries have approached his company about cooperation in building new chip factories within their borders, and Poland was among the countries he mentioned.
Revolut Money Report: how did Poles invest in 2023?
Polish Revolut customers actively invested in 2023 using the app, the average value of investment portfolios was 7330 PLN (the average in the EEA region was 7960 PLN). Like many Revolut customers in Europe, Polish investors showed the greatest enthusiasm for Tesla (TSLA) shares, when it comes to companies listed in Europe, the most popular were shares of the Dutch payment sector company Adyen N.V. (1N8). In 2024, due to the likely decrease in interest rates, bond prices may be in an upward trend, which may be the basis for building a new investment strategy.
