After last year's investment in OpenAI, the American giant has just announced a partnership with one of the most dynamically developing European startups in this field - the French Mistral AI. Microsoft partners with Mistral AI. The latest large language model Mistral Large is now on the Azure AI platform

Microsoft has partnered with the startup Mistral AI. As part of the agreement, the American giant will take a minority stake in the French company, and the partnership itself will involve research and development cooperation to create applications for governments throughout Europe and "use artificial intelligence models to meet the needs of the public sector". The collaboration also introduces the new language model Mistral Large to the Azure AI platform. Mistral AI has been on the market only since April 2023, and its value is already estimated at 2 billion euros.

The VIGO Photonics project has been included in the list of projects selected for co-financing under the European Funds for Modern Economy 2021-2027. The company wants to build a factory for infrared chips, which will revolutionize the way data is collected by electronic devices. VIGO Photonics is a global leader in the production of uncooled, photonic infrared detectors using its own unique technology. The offered detectors are used in industry, medicine, military technology, and research work.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger announced during Intel Foundry Direct Connect a company restructuring, as a result of which a second company named Intel Foundry is being established. This will be an organization dealing with everything related to production, packaging, and testing of semiconductors. The planned changes are intended to enable Intel to closely cooperate with its current market rivals: AMD, Nvidia, and Arm.

Will Apple pay 500 million euros for anti-competitive actions? EU decision due in March

In response to a complaint filed by Spotify in 2019, the European Commission has launched an antitrust investigation against Apple. Its aim was to determine whether the Cupertino giant deliberately blocked iPhone users from being informed about the availability of alternative music streaming apps outside the App Store. As a penalty, the company will most likely have to pay a fine of up to 500 million euros. The official decision of the European Commission is to be announced in early March.

Nvidia's CEO announces the "death" of coding. In his opinion, people should learn agriculture

Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, appeared last week at the World Government Summit in Dubai, where he argued that coding will soon become a redundant skill. Huang stated that although we are at an early stage of the AI revolution, this technology can already replace us in many programming tasks. According to Nvidia's CEO, we should all focus on developing more practical skills such as biology, education, production, and agriculture.

PFR Ventures invests 150 million PLN in four Polish VC funds

PFR Ventures has signed agreements with four Polish venture capital funds, which invest in innovative companies in the country and the CEE region. These are Inovo VC, Market One Capital and SMOK Ventures. The fourth fund will be announced at a later date, but it is already known that the team will focus on financing companies in the growth phase (growth equity) from Poland and Europe and it will be managed by a group of experienced managers. The target size of the fund will be similar to the size of the other Polish funds from the PFR VC Hub portfolio.
